Can you get HIV and STI’s from kissing?
Answer: DEPENDS. Herpes is the only sexually transmitted infection (STI) that can be passed through kissing. This usually happens when one person has a sore on or around the mouth and then kisses another person.
HIV CANNOT be transmitted through kissing. Specifically, HIV can be transmitted through: 1) blood, 2) semen, 3) vaginal fluid, 4) rectal fluids and 5) breast milk. HIV is most commonly transmitted through sexual intercourse with a person living with HIV; through sharing needles during drug use; and from mother to child during pregnancy, birth or the breastfeeding period.
